| On Saturday, October 21, 2006 Business & Professional Women of Winnipeg Central members and guests, gathered at the Holiday Inn, in Winnipeg to celebrate and officially receive their Charter.
We were fortunate to have the ceremony officiated by Fran Donaldson, President BPW Canada and Darlene Clevan, President BPW Saskatchewan. Other honourable guests included Colleen Allan, President BPW Manitoba, Norma Boulé, President BPW Selkirk, Janice Bechdoldt, President BPW Thompson, and Elaine Elliott, Past President Selkirk. Marilyn Brick MLA St. Norbert also attended and brought greetings from the Provincial Government. Our keynote speaker, Darla Campbell, Past President of BPW Canada, delivered a very thought provoking presentation entitled "The Great Divide". She discussed the challenges facing women in business and politics, and shared some very sage advice on how to handle ourselves within both spheres. We were also very pleased to have the support of three distinguished members of the Canadian Forces - Captain D. Dubois, CD, Diversity Officer based in Winnipeg, and Lt.(N) J.H.Lee and Petty Officer 2 Marsha Edlington from Hamilton, Ontario. The presence of Betty Peddie, a BPW member since 1946 and Elma Krewiak a BPW-Selkirk member for 54 years, collectively, gave us 114 years worth of experience and knowledge of BPW. "Marilyn Monroe", dropped in to entertain us, offer congratulations, reminisce about her movies and sing us a few bars of her favourite songs. She was dressed in her memorable white dress (subway scene) and lots of ‘dazzling diamonds’. Her attendance certainly added sparkle to the party.
If you missed this party, don’t despair. There are more to come. In the meantime, please feel free to come out to our monthly meetings and enjoy stimulating and thought provoking speakers. Currently, our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm (sharp) at Daniel McIntyre School, 720 Alverstone Street. Next meeting will be in January 2007. Check the website for date and time.
